⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strange Sally Diamond — Liz Nugent
This months book club read and it was an easy 5 star for me. I genuinely couldn’t put it down.
I loved Sally from the very beginning and found myself desperately hoping she would find some kind of normality after the incredibly traumatic and dark childhood she was born into.
It’s a dark and intense story with some really strong themes, but the writing was SO good. The short chapters made it ridiculously easy to keep saying “just one more chapter”, while the different points of view kept me completely invested.
What I loved was watching Sally try to make sense of people, relationships and what “normal” actually looks like. You’re constantly hoping that she’ll find the safety, love and belonging she deserves, while also wondering whether everyone around her can really be trusted.
There were characters I was desperate to see become part of Sally’s life… and others I absolutely did NOT want anywhere near her!
The writing was descriptive enough to really convey the darkness of the story without becoming so grim that you wanted to put the book down. It was intense, emotional and completely absorbing.
So many people had recommended this book to me and I’m honestly so pleased I finally picked it up.
I loved the story. I loved the writing.
And most of all… I loved Sally.
Definitely one I’ll be recommending.
